O: See surgery report for details. Placed IM-ESF tie-in to repair L humeral fracture. Placed telfa/tegaderm over suture line, placed figure-8 and body wrap over surgery site. IO catheter in the R dorsal ulna, given 20cc throughout procedure. Patient was stable throughout procedure, recovered uneventfully from anesthesia. Pulled IO catheter before placing bird back in enclosure.

P: Rx pentoxfylline. Change wing wrap tom and check for bleeding at suture site.

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - humerus
Performed by - AD
Surgery time - 120 minutes

Pre-medicated with 0.23 ml torb IM. Anesthetized via isoflurane
facemask, then intubated with 3.5 uncuffed ET tube. Placed bird
in ventral recumbency, plucked and scrubbed dorsal aspect of
L humerus. Incised over fracture site with #15 blade. Humeral
crest fractured off, had difficulty palpating and placing IM
pin in the proximal fragment initially. Proximal fragment displaced
ventrally, had to manipulate the bone out of the incison site
to seat the IM pin properly. Once through the proximal fragment,
cut the distal end of the pin and drove across fracture site
into distal piece and seated at elbow. Cleaned surgery site,
closed muscle and skin with 4-0 webcryl in simple interrupted
patterns. Placed 2 cross pins, one in each fragment, and bent
IM pin around to run parallel to bone. Secured IM pin and cross
pins together with epoxy. Covered sutures with TAO, telfa and
tegaderm, placed figure-8 with body wrap on wing. Patient recovered
uneventfully from anesthesia.

S: Standing on perch. Turned to handler but did not struggle much.

O: Changed figure-8 and body wrap over L wing - humeral fracture is still very closed, feels like it may be starting to try to stabilize but still should be repairable with surgery. Replaced wrap. Scabbing on caudal aspect of the L hock - no wounds underneath. Small scab on abdomen with no wound underneath also noted. Visual OU. Flat fly found during wrap change, sprayed bird with Adams.

A: Guarded prognosis due to L humerus fx. There should be enough bone on each end for surgical repair. Appears to have been hit by a car, since there is evidence of road burn on both feet. Condition otherwise appears stable.

P: Rx Tramadol, meloxicam, terbinafine, fluids. Collect blood and fecal 2/3. Check vitals in morning since new patient. Monitor L figure 8 wrap and replace 2/5. Set up Vet check 2/5.
